We're trialling this idea to help players get a better understanding of what UK quidditch's national governing body (that's us!) do month-to-month. These are intended to be more formal than our newsletter, serving as a monthly digest of our weekly executive minutes. Like this idea? Hate it? Thoroughly ambivalent? Let us know!
Presidential
Recognising the disruption to the normal handover processes, our Vice President is leading an initiative to produce resource guides which will help new university club committees settle into their roles. The presidential team have also been helping other departments with their various projects, making sure everything is in place for the start of the new season.
Events
Most of the department's effort has been put into making sure the return of quidditch at the first community fixture is as successful as possible! Despite that, we have still made progress with our other projects including updating our Events Conduct Policy and the development of the Quidditch First Aid qualification.
Open Roles: Events Director, Tournament Volunteers Officer
Expansion
Our expansion managers have continued to work with clubs to ensure their return from the last season is as strong as possible, and work with interested parties on starting new teams.
Open Roles: Expansion Director
Gameplay
The final QuidditchUK rules amendments for the 2021/22 season have been agreed. We are investigating changing the format of referee meetings to remove an organisation hurdle from Events. Many new features have been added to Quidditch Scheduler ahead of its September debut.
Open Roles: Assistant Gameplay Director
Media
This month saw the handover from Sam Instone to Beck Throup as Media Director. Alread work has started on several new projects including the launch of a QUK Discord server to better connect the community outside fixtures and a QUK TikTok so that we remain down with the kids.
Filled Roles: Media Director
Open Roles: Media Coordinator, Content Creator
Operations
QuidditchUK's financial report for the 2020/21 season is written and being wrapped up. The document will be finalised and presented to members at AGM in September. We've also been investigating Xero to reintroduce as a tool to help with our accounting and a potential plan for merchandise at future QUK events.
Open Roles: Assistant Operations Director
Teams
Following on from the recruitment guide, we ran a seminar for university teams ahead of freshers 2021 so that our clubs can be as prepared as possible to introduce a new generation of players to the sport. Plans are also being put in place for our AGM and the coaching qualification programme is taking form.
Aside from the recruitment above, we've continued to do wellbeing check-ins with our current volunteers. We've also started collating resources on delegation and team management with the aim of better preparing new members of the Executive Management Team to lead volunteers.
Open Roles: Recruitment Officer, EDI Committee
